Challenge
Overcoming Disconnected Systems and Manual Processes
Eagle Performance Plastics knew their existing approach to data and inventory management was holding them back. With data spread across two disparate systems and manual processes driving daily operations, teams often worked with delayed or incomplete information. Errors were difficult to trace to their source, and while scrap was visible, the underlying causes were often not.
The company began exploring the process of replacing its existing systems. Through discussion with both customers and suppliers about the platforms that they trusted, Eagle Performance Plastics ultimately discovered the Plex Smart Manufacturing Platform™.
Solution
A Unified Platform and a Stronger Team
Working closely with Plex partner Control+M Solutions, Eagle Performance Plastics decided to move forward with an implementation of Plex. The team established a weekly cadence with Control+M, ultimately helping to keep the implementation on track through frequent check-ins and progress reports. The process itself became a unifying effort, bringing teams together across the organization. It created opportunities for collaboration and discovery as everyone learned about Plex and how it would ultimately improve their day-to-day processes.
As the go-live date neared, nearly 80% of the Eagle Performance Plastics workforce volunteered to work through the weekend, exemplifying the team’s commitment to the success of their Plex implementation. The company successfully went live with Plex in January 2024.
Results
Turning Accessible Data into New Opportunities
Before implementing Plex, Eagle Performance Plastics relied on multiple disparate systems and 100% paper-based workflows. Manual data entry, limited visibility into scheduling, and delayed access to information made it difficult for teams to respond quickly and understand the causes behind scrap issues. By implementing Plex, the company transformed how it manages operations, bringing teams together, improving visibility, and laying the foundation for improvement over time.
The Plex implementation didn’t just replace outdated technology, it changed how people work together. While Eagle Performance Plastics President, Lori Sealock, noted that an exact before-and-after comparison is difficult to provide, the impact of Plex is clear. Teams now have real-time visibility into operations and can identify exactly where errors are occurring. This now enables targeted training and the ability to make changes as needed and without issue. Additionally, Eagle Performance Plastics gained a clear view into KPI’s since implementing Plex.
“Our external scrap is much easier to track, it probably saves us 50% of the time it used to take us,” Sealock said. “Internal scrap – now we know exactly what it’s from. Before, we just knew it was scrap, but we didn’t know if it was offsets or if it was miscounting. Now we know exactly why.”
With Plex, Eagle Performance Plastics now has access to more information than ever before. While the team is still learning how to fully leverage this newfound data, they’re optimistic about the future, forming teams focused on continuous improvement and decision-making.
“We have all this information, but we don’t quite know what to do with it because we’re so new,” Sealock said. “But we have the information, so now we’re working on teams to improve this. Before, we didn’t even have the information.”
By moving from paper and disconnected systems to a single source of truth, Eagle Performance Plastics has gained the visibility and confidence needed to better support its customers and work towards a bright future with Plex in its corner.
